Colorado’s Scenic Byways – An Outdoor Lover’s Guide highlights the unique attributes of each of the state's 25 scenic byways, as well as the state parks and wildlife areas, national parks, forests and waterways along them. This fun and comprehensive guide is a useful tool for outdoor enthusiasts of any age. Instead of offering the byways as simply alternate routes — highway diversions from the freeway system to be driven in a matter of hours — this book challenges the traveler to use the byway system to plan destination vacations. You'll meet each byway up close and personal, and discover its scenic, natural, recreational, cultural, historical and archaeological features.

About the Author: Dawnie Jackson and her Samoyed dog, Torri, spent the summer of 2006 traveling all 25 scenic byways in Colorado, covering almost 9,000 miles of awesome beauty. In Colorado's Scenic Byways: An Outdoor Lover's Guide, she shares her love of nature and the state. Dawnie has been involved with the Colorado River Headwaters Byway since the early 1990s when the route was first designated. Her work to establish and run the byway through the federally-funded grassroots program gives her a unique perspective on these incredible resources.
"Editing Colorado's Scenic Byways: An Outdoor Lover's Guide introduced me to enchanting corners of my adopted state that I never knew existed. But even more enchanting was Dawnie Jackson's warm, personal and perceptive depictions of the beauty, history and local color she discovered along the byways."

"As the coordinator for the Colorado River Headwaters Byway, I've seen a lot of things written about byways. I think Dawnie Jackson's book gives great insight to byway stories and it does it in a fun and interesting way. It's easy to follow and a great guide to our State's most beautiful and interesting places."
